A total solar eclipse cast its rare shadow across North America. Up to 4 minutes and 28 seconds of totality—one of the longest in recent history—paused the rhythm of the day. And for some, it opened a deeper reflection.

In the movements of life, each of us carries unique dreams and quiet goals. Sometimes, these hopes materialize slowly—just as vines mature, season after season, until the fruit is ready to be shared.

And there, amidst the sun-kissed hills of Tuscany, emerges Ad astra—Latin for “to the stars.” A reminder that the journey toward the sublime is often long, sometimes difficult, but always worth it.

As I gaze back and reflect, I whisper to myself: this is the essence of beauty—the chance to stumble and rise again, to reach up and brush against the stars whose brilliance was never truly far.

To celebrate this Unique moment in time, that I will not be there to experience in my lifetime, I choose:

Some winemakers didn’t touch their vines that day. Others simply stood and observed.

In biodynamic viticulture, rooted in the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, celestial events like eclipses are seen as energetic thresholds—times of vulnerability and deep we’re taught that celestial events are part of the vine’s rhythm. That the sky and the soil are in constant conversation.

Many biodynamic growers choose to:
• Avoid pruning or working the soil during eclipses
• Embrace silence and stillness, letting nature lead the rhythm
• Observe instead of intervening, trusting the vine’s intuition

Biodynamic wines are often described as alive—vibrant, pure, and expressive.

But beyond the flavor, they represent care, patience, and belief in nature’s intelligence.

And I believe this vintage, quietly growing under the shadow of the 2024 eclipse, will carry that energy.
